Review - The Language of Water

The Language of Water
(UK customers)

This is an extremely well written book by the author Jude Clarke who is a lupus sufferer.

As a child she had to watch her father suffering from manic depression only to discover at the age of 21 that she herself had a chronic disease which would seriously affect her way of life & that of her husband and family.

She adeptly conveys both the physical and emotional aspects of living with lupus and the need to have doctors and consultants in whom she can trust.

It is so heartening to read that despite the constraints placed on her and her family by the illness, she has still managed to lead a very fulfilling life, travelling extensively and becoming a well respected artist.

I would strongly recommend this book to any lupus sufferer or lupus carer as it would inspire them to know what can be achieved in spite of this devastating illness.

About The Language of Water

A painter's life and work, undergoing the constant ordeal of the disease Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, is described by Jude Clarke with an insistence on love, memory and creativity that make it unique both as an autobiography and as encouragement for the afflicted.

Jude Clarke's graceful, poignant portrayal is accompanied by full-colour reproductions of her paintings which reflect her personal growth during her long battle with lupus.

Illness and despair find their counterbalance in Clarke's exploration of the roots of self in memory, place and family.
