Photosensitivity

Most SLE patients are sensitive to sun & other forms of UV light.

Exposure to the sun can trigger a rash, & can also result in fever, fatigue, joint pain, & other lupus symptoms.

Both UVA & UVB rays are problematic, & lupus patients are advised to wear sunscreen whenever outdoors, even in cloudy weather (UV rays can penetrate clouds).

Many are also sensitive to light emitted from fluorescent bulbs(UVB) & halogen lamps(UVA).
