A test for dry eyes, associated with Sjogren's Syndrome.
A small strip of filter paper is placed into each
eye, inside the lower eyelid.
The eyes are then closed for 5 minutes.
The paper is then removed & examined for moisture.
The paper can make the eyes feel slightly uncomfortable.
A negative (more than 10 mm of moisture on the filter
paper in 5 minutes) test result is normal.
Both eyes normally secrete the same amount of tears.
