Salivary Gland Biopsy

This test may be performed to confirm the presence of Sjogren's Syndrome.

The skin over the gland is scrubbed & a local anaesthetic may be injected.
A needle is then inserted into the gland, & when it is removed, a small core of tissue is also removed.

There may be some stinging or burning when the local anaesthetic is injected.
When the biopsy needle is inserted, some mild discomfort may be felt for a couple of minutes.
The area may feel tender or bruised for a few days.
